list of my all-time favourite albums and why i like them.

haken – vector (2018) & virus (2020)

  • to me these two albums are essentially one album split into two parts.
  • gripped me really hard for months and remains wholly enjoyable to listen to after lots of repeats.
  • fun narrative & musical ties to their previous albums which encouraged me to listen more.
  • favourite tracks: a cell divides & messiah complex iii–v

muse – origin of symmetry (2001)

  • the strongest release by this band imo.
  • almost every track is enjoyable. the anniversary remaster is particularly crisp.
  • this is from before their lyrics completely devolved into /revolution for the suburbs/.
  • favourite track: citizen erased

ghost – meliora (2015) & popestar (2016)

  • the album that really put them on the map and yeah i can tell why.
  • album flows well and has a good mix of rougher and softer tracks.
  • square hammer is still one of their catchiest tracks.
  • favourite track: from the pinnacle to the pit

we lost the sea – departure songs (2015)

  • nicely put together post-rock album.
  • some tracks stick out to me more than others, but it's still enjoyable as a whole.
  • the concept and track illustrations are a nice bonus.
  • favourite track: bogatyri

pink floyd – dark side of the moon (1973)

  • classic and iconic for good reason.
  • every track in this remains memorable in some way even after not listening to it for a while.
  • favourite track: time

sea power – valhalla dancehall (2011)

  • post-disco elysium sea power obsession.
  • don't know if this is my favourite album as a whole. it has the highest density of tracks i really like.
  • favourite track: once more now

modest mouse – we were dead before the ship even sank (2007)

  • strong themes throughout the whole album.
  • good variety of tracks keeps it interesting when listening to the whole thing.
  • favourite track: parting of the sensory

radiohead – kid a mnesia (2021)

  • leans more into instrumentals and electronic elements than ok computer, which was previously listed here.
  • favourite track: idioteque

car seat headrest – twin fantasy (2018)

  • i am not immune to gay furry album.
  • the >10 minute long tracks especially are good.
  • favourite track: famous prophets (stars)

arctic monkeys – whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not (2006)

  • listened to a lot of this band in high school on account of my bandmates being into it so i feel like it deserves a mention.
  • kind of a tossup between this and favourite worst nightmare (2007).
  • favourite track: from the ritz to the rubble

royal blood – untitled (2014)

  • main appeal to me is that it's just two guys and a lot of gear.
  • incredibly full sound despite the fact that it's just a bass guitar, drums and vocals.
  • favourite track: ten tonne skeleton

queens of the stone age – ...like clockwork (2013)

  • some tracks can be a bit forgettable, but the good ones are very enjoyable.
  • favourite track: i appear missing

BA. – NAUTO (2022)

  • rly solid modern lithuanian rock.
  • H8 (2019) is another good one from them, but doesn't end on as strong of a note.
  • favourite track: praradau mintis

rammstein – liebe ist für alle da (2009)

  • i don't actually have a hardline favourite rammstein album, this is just the closest to that.
  • used to listen to this a lot back in the day and the density of /tracks i like/ is still good.
  • the whole discography of rammstein in general can be considered formative to my tastes in music.
  • in the light of the recent allegations i dont see myself returning to their music anytime soon. but i feel like i still want to mention it just bc of past relevance to me.
  • favourite track: haifisch
